There are wedding days that start exactly as planned… and then there are wedding days that decide to write their own story.
Libby and Connor travelled from Birmingham to Spain to celebrate their wedding at Casa Félix, surrounded by 69 of their closest family and friends.
And, as if the Mediterranean had decided to add a little drama to the beginning of the day, Saturday morning started with rain.
But thankfully, the weather had other plans.
By the time the important moments arrived, the clouds gave way to sunshine, the temperature was perfect and Casa Félix looked exactly like the setting you would hope for a summer destination wedding in Spain.
And from there, the day simply flowed.
A Destination Wedding from Birmingham to Casa Félix
Libby and Connor came all the way from Birmingham for their wedding in Catalonia.
Their day was beautifully planned by Sachi from Sunny Weddings, together with Anna, who helped coordinate everything throughout the day.
From the morning preparations to the final song of the night, every part of the wedding had its own personality.
And there was plenty of it.
The girls got ready downstairs, where the beautiful natural light and fresh air created the perfect atmosphere for hair and makeup.
The boys had their own preparations upstairs, with Connor getting ready in his room surrounded by his friends.
And then came one of those little moments that make wedding photography so special.
Before Libby finished getting ready, Connor sent her a letter.
He wasn’t there when she opened it.
I was.
Which meant that, for a few minutes, I got to photograph Libby’s face as she read the words from the man she was about to marry.
No posing. No instructions.
Just a very real moment.
The Dress, the Bridesmaids and the Final Preparations
When Libby was finally ready, one of the big moments of the day had arrived.
Her wedding dress was spectacular, with an elegant fitted silhouette and beautiful embroidery that gave the whole look so much character.
The bridesmaids wore black, creating a fantastic contrast with Libby’s dress.
Then came the photographs with her friends, those last moments before the ceremony filled with laughter, excitement and plenty of complicity.
A few minutes to enjoy being together before everything really began.
And all the while, the excitement was building.
There wasn’t much time left before Libby would walk down the stairs at Casa Félix and meet Connor.
A Beautiful Ceremony at Casa Félix
The ceremony took place along the famous long passage at Casa Félix.
The bridesmaids and flower girl made their entrance down the stone staircase before Libby appeared at the large wooden doors with her father.
And then everything stopped.
The music started.
The doors opened.
And Connor saw his bride.
It was one of those moments where you don’t really need to do anything as a photographer.
You just have to be there.
The ceremony was intimate, emotional and full of those small reactions that happen naturally when two people are surrounded by the people who matter most to them.
And then came the kiss.
Followed by petals, laughter and the newlyweds walking back through the doors together.
Officially married.
Sunset, Champagne and a Little Bit of Mediterranean Magic
After the ceremony, we took some time for family photographs and a few photos with the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Libby and Connor weren’t interested in disappearing for hours for a long couple’s session.
And honestly?
I loved that.
They wanted to enjoy their wedding.
They wanted to spend time with their guests.
They wanted to eat, drink, laugh and actually experience the day they had travelled to Spain for.
So that’s exactly what we did.
A few photographs, some beautiful light and then back to the party.
The aperitif took place down by the pool, with everyone enjoying the relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere of Casa Félix.
And somewhere between the champagne, the laughter and the sunshine, you could completely forget that the day had started with rain.
Dinner by the Pool
Before dinner, everyone gathered for a large group photograph along the ceremony passage.
69 people.
One staircase.
One photographer trying to make everyone look in the same direction.
You can imagine how that went.
Thankfully, we got it.
Dinner was served by Chef Bruno, with the tables set beside the pool as the evening light started to soften.
The speeches came next.
Libby’s father, Ian, spoke first, followed by Connor.
Later, Libby herself took the microphone, followed by the best man, Billy.
Four speeches.
Plenty of stories.
And, judging by the reactions, probably a few things that should never be repeated outside Casa Félix.
Dancing in the Moonlight
At 21:45, it was time for the first dance.
The song?
Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader.
A pretty perfect choice for a summer wedding in Spain.
And then the party really started.
The DJ, Roger Mask, took over and the dance floor quickly became the place to be.
Three hours of open bar.
A packed dance floor.
A group of friends who had travelled from Birmingham to Spain to celebrate.
And absolutely no reason to go home early.
Well… except that the bar eventually closed at 00:30.
The wedding started at 11 in the morning.
The party finished at half past midnight.
So, roughly speaking, Libby and Connor managed to turn one Saturday into about 13 and a half hours of wedding.
I’d say they got their money’s worth.
A Perfect Destination Wedding in Spain
What I loved most about Libby and Connor’s wedding was how naturally everything happened.
There were beautiful details, an incredible venue, fantastic suppliers and plenty of planning behind the scenes.
But the photographs never felt like a production.
They felt like them.
The nervous moments.
The tears.
The laughs.
The champagne.
The speeches.
The dancing.
The ridiculous moments with friends.
The quiet moments between the two of them.
And that is exactly what I look for when I photograph a wedding.
Not just how everything looked.
But how it felt.
Libby and Connor, thank you for trusting me to be there for your day.
From Birmingham to Casa Félix, from the morning rain to the late-night dancing, it was an absolute pleasure to photograph every minute of it.
And yes…
Casa Félix survived another wedding. Just about.
